Miwok Myths and Tales

This portion of the website contains the Marin-specific stories from C. Hart Merriam’s work with the Coast Miwok in the 20th century. Some stories he gathered were ancient, and others he designated “present day,” though it is unclear how he differentiated them.

Originally published in 1910, this most recent version was reprinted in 1993.
